We at FSC Adria Balkan on this day, would like to highlight some of the main activities that we are planning for this year, all focused on promoting the FSC as the best tool for responsible management of forests and biodiversity conservation in our region.

We started the year with launching FSC Trace which is available to all FSC certificate holders starting from January.

FSC Trace is designed to strengthen data transparency and support the integrity of FSC claims. Alongside strengthening our assurance system, this release of FSC Trace will help us take an initial step toward meeting member expectations and exploring practical approaches to volume tracking. FSC Trace delivers core digital traceability across FSC-certified supply chains. It’s a tool built for immediate use and will evolve to serve future needs.

Another important thing we are focusing on is continuing the process of the ongoing development of the new Interim Forest Stewardship Standard for North Macedonia. North Macedonia’s forest resources are significant, comprising 907,255 hectares of state-owned forests and 142,045 hectares of privately owned forests. We look forward to the approval of the new Forest Management Standard by FSC International by summer 2026, enabling Macedonian forest managers to begin adopting it and adjusting their forest management practices in order to obtain FSC certification as soon as possible.

Many events in focus in 2026

This year we are also present at many events in the region, where you can come and visit us and talk together on the developments in forests protection. We started in Rovinj, Croatia with Adriatic Wood Days in February, where our representative Nermin Hadzic was part of a coordination meeting, organized by Croatian Wood Cluster, CROBIOM and the Croatian Consumer Protection Association, with the participation of representatives of the competent institutions, the academic community and international partners, with the aim of solving the disruption and shortage of wood pellets on the domestic market.

It was concluded that it is necessary to ensure a long-term and sustainable solution through better balancing of production and raw material capacities, adaptation of the legislative framework and more active involvement of the Directorate for Commodity Stocks, with coordination with line bodies and continued promotion of RES programs. Socio-environmental sustainability has been also mentioned as a must and FSC is playing his role for this with long lasting certification of 74% of Croatian forest area.

Last week we continued in Ljubljana, Slovenia by presenting our activities at the Home Fair, one of the biggest international fairs in the field of construction in Slovenia with experts and visitor from different fields. Next week we are again going to Ljubljana area at Komenda Fair, where you can visit us and share again an opportunity to talk about all the developments in protecting forests together!

,,We also looking forward to Greencajt festival in Zagreb, Croatia that is happening from 1 – 3 June, where FSC Adria Balkan will have it’s own corner, where visitors can meet us and find out more about the meaning of FSC certification, its specific labels and the role that, governments, companies and consumers can play to support it.

More events are activities are under elaboration for the second part of the year, while listening the proposals and needs of our stakeholders. In the meanwhile, let us wish, you all a happy World Forest Day! Hope you can enjoy a short walk through a forest!”, says Diego Florian, our National Representative in the Adria-Balkan region.
